Hola,

It's been cold with a lot of precipitation down her too, actually, even snow in some places I hear and that I can see (the tops of Big Bear, San Jacinto, Corona Mts., and the Mts. I can see in San Diego County). None of these mountains are too close. The closest are probably the ones in San Diego County, though I heard a rumor it snowed a little and melted in Lake Ellsinore (one town north of here).

I had to remember to tell you that I get a lot of complements on the coat you sent me. Everyone really likes it. You said I looked good in that picture (Brenden Davis, an recent RM in the Singles branch who helps us out a lot, we'll probably be calling from his house Christmas Morning) sent you, I feel pretty good too. Elder Moreland has me lifting weights with him most mornings and I'm feeling pretty good. ESPECIALLY right now because I woke up from a nice long nap (oops still haven't written really any letters since I got to Murrieta…).

I really appreciate your comments about Ether 12:27. More and more that scripture becomes the theme of my mission…err…life. I think I was one of the people the Lord had most in mind when he uttered those words. And that scripture was again the theme of last week, and it helped so much. It was a good and peaceful and especially joyful week.

I've also been thinking about imperfections are one of the major elements in truly beautiful earthly art, to me anyways. You might even exchange the word "imperfections" for a more positive sounding word; how about "variations" or "distinctions". My imperfections…err…variations are God-given and beautiful. They help me remember to lean on the Savior in all things, forgive others, be humble, and rely on the Spirit. If I didn't have my variations…I… wouldn't be living. It would be a horrible existence. I feel the Love of God in seeing variations and imperfections made strong in Christ.

Oh, it's been drizzling all day today and I can see a big dark cloud rolling across the sky out of the window right now.

I'll call you Christmas Eve evening…or morning…I'll not sure when I'll have time… to set up the time that I'll be calling you Christmas. I hope that narrows it down a little? I'm not worried about the pre-call call. I'll try the home phone first, and I'm sure all or at least one of you will be there and if I don't get an answer there I'll call your cell phone.

Hey, tell pops not to put too much pressure on Tim-berlake to put in his papers right away. In my opinion the putting in of the papers signifies that you're all ready to leave, and if he still needs to do something…bla bla bla, bla bla, I want to see timbs but if I don't I won't complain…to the Lord about it. =)

Ok. Well love, talk to you sooner than soon.

Andy

DECEMBER 12, 2008 - THE GOSPEL’S SWEET, BUT LUCKILY NOT MADE OUT OF SUGAR

It's been raining all day, you know how I like that. The streets are flooded, it's a little fun to drive through the puddles in the truck and stay dry. =)

Yes, I got both boxes (Pre-Christmas and On-Christmas) and I'm very happy to have them!

A lot of very good things are happening. I'm very happy.

Last week there were four baptisms in the Zone-> a fourth grade girl and seventh grade girl, sisters, their mom was just baptized in the Spanish Branch last transfer, and also two very special adults who were both born and raised in the Bronx, and talk and act like it. They are very special people to be around and make you feel important. I had the opportunity to interview all them. I love interviewing people for baptism; it's one of my very favorite things.

-No, there was 5, another Adult in an English ward. This weekend I think the Zone is baptizing 9. We're receiving such a huge influx of missionaries (by like 30% or so) and we've been promised such huge blessings in the past two months. This is amazing. Baptisms are up too. Love it up. The ability and the greatness of the missionaries are up. I've seen the bar raised in our mission, it's been rising the whole time I've been here, and I can see that it was raising all before I came and I can see that it will continue to rise and rise.

Lately I've been recognizing how close to accomplishing the prophecies we are. I'm very excited. I'm very proud of the kids just younger than me and younger. I feel like they're better than I am and I feel obligated to try to live and work and love to their standard to pave the way for them.

I'm happy to be able to talk to you on the 25th. I'll give you the pre-call call on the 24th or 23rd to set up a time.

I love the work. Pray that I can be humble even when I don't need to be. (Not that there are times when it's ok to not be humble, but when the situation allows me to not be) And that I will continue desire to rely on the Spirit. That's some of what I'm praying for for me.

Love you, Elder Stricklan

Andy

DECEMBER 8, 2008 - GOD BLESS YE MERRY GENTLEMEN

...may nothing you dismay!"

Oh man. I wrote a great email but there was a hiccup somewhere and my comp was wiped clean! Man, libraries. Re-do's!

Well, it's finally fall =) (some of the leaves changed to yellow and orange around my apartment last weekend.)

I'm very happy to hear about the Grandma Webb visit. I love her so much.

Man, my last email was a lot better than this! What did I write about... ???

Uh, oh, the Singles Branch! Wow, a lot of good work is happening in the Singles Branch! I think a lot of it has to do with the age of the people, obviously; Recent RMs, the mission prep kids, and they all have a lot of friends and a lot of time. I love working with the singles. Especially the singles investigators, they're special-> intelligent, genuine, and they aren't hardened yet, they still think there might be truth out there. =))

About that last comment you made about my comp and I, nah, I knew it was going to be hard. I know and love him very well, and for very long. He doesn't get along with people long-term very well, but afterwards, you've earned a true and loyal and fun friend. But he doesn't like being with the same person for long periods of time (and you know I'm exactly the opposite). But when we're working it's amazing. That's how we do. But if we have time for...say... a comp study (which rarely happens these days, luckily) he just frustrated.

That's Elder Moreland, Elder Moreland the amazing.
(Everybody knows it.)

So don't worry about it, i'm the man for the jorb.

I'll send you a couple of cards this week.

I've been studying charity, the plan of salvation, and the last words of Nephi (the son of Lehi) lately. Oh also, mostly enduring to the end. As you know, most people have no concept of this principal, but I'm a little (...i'm not sure what the right word is... "dismayed"?) that many members of the church/missionaries have too much of the "oh God will just beat me with a few stripes in the end and I'll be good" attitude. I'm really really serious about this principle, for serious.

I love you so much mums, remember, the end is the most important part.

Palabra, Elder Stricklan

Andy
