JANUARY 7, 2009 - DON’T GO CHANGING TO TRY TO PLEASE ME

More from Elder Griffith!  I told him about some movies I saw this New Years holiday, so he commented on that.  For those who don't know, Brittany is a girl in our ward, her brother is "the other Broc" who is in Mexico right now and she is a year younger than them and is getting married on Friday & Haily is Brock's cousin who just turned 13. Hey Mom!

New Years was great. We ate with Brother Rojas. He`s an awesome cook aprt from everything else he does well haha. He is the member that goes out with us almost every day. Everyone just cant believe it they call him the 3rd missionary. If there was an award like in basketball for the 6th man in missionary work, he would definitely win. We then went back to the apartment and watched people light fireworks and stuff like that. Good fun. they tried to offer us alcohol with time old excuse "it just has a little bit of alcohol". haha we politely declined and drnk our cheap version of martinelis. Sounds like your New Years was awesome. Movies, eating out and games. Ya so if you could make a list of movies as well for me to watch so when I get home I can just go to Holleywood Video and rent them all haha. Wow Haily is so OLD! That means I’m getting old too! Wow Brittany married. That is really wierd.

This week was pretty awesome we are having a lot of success getting people to church which was the hardest part before but now a ton of people are coming inactives and investigators. Pray for us so that it keeps up! Not a lot to report on other than that. Transfers coming up next week so we`ll see what happens. Its kinda up in the air. Some say I am leaving and others say I am staying but who knows. Hey I love you guys!

Mommy!

It was so awesome to talk to you guys! It made me a little bit trunky bit I loved it. I had forgotten how much I miss you. I got you letter this week so its all good but the song didnt work. It was all broken. I dont know if they thought it was some sort of spy gadget or something but it was all torn up. O I miss mexican lasagna so much! The rest of my christmas was pretty uneventful. My comp had santa hats so we went around singing to a bunch of members and investigators. It was fun. All the kids called my comp santa or papa noel in spanish because he was fat and jolley with the glasses. He only needed the white beard and it would have been perfect. it was hilarious. Then this older lady like 30 or something said she wanted a present but in a very sexual sense and we just started laughing. The girls here are really crazy. Like I told D its very common to see a 15 16 year old girl pregnant or with a baby. What I notice here is that there isnt organized sports or afterschool activities so they have nothing else to do but drink and get pregnant. Its so sad but its true. Today we had a big bbq as a zone. We had a little mini football so we threw that around and ate a bunch of meat and just had a great time. I liked it a lot. we told football stroies. Well everyone else told football srories I told baseball stories haha.

I wrote zak a long time ago I figured it just didnt get to him. But I´m not sure if his address is the same. Can you ask him for his address so I can write him again. O man dunkball with Zak and Paul. Those were the good ol days. I hope we can still have a few more times like that.

No I dont knwo departure date yet. When you hit 18 months is when they give you departure date and stuff like that. Mom I need you to start looking at getting me back into Dixie. Classes and when classes start so I can know if I need to come home a couple weeks early if classes start before the transfer. My comp has all the transfers marked and I think I get home like the 15th or something like that of August. If you could get working on that I would be extremely grateful. Ya I would love to be a EFY counselor with chad! I dont knwo how that works or anything like that but sign me up!

The baptisms went great! They are both 9. It was a great experience to see them with huge smiles on their cute little faces. the water was really cold though haha. Mom I love you so much. I need more letters from girls. I have been lacking very much in letters. Tell this Jessica girl to write me and quick haha.

Something interesting that I learned this week was when I was reading about the creation in Moses it talks about that God created all things spiritually before creating them physically. You can compare that to plan making and goal setting. Plans and Goals would be the spiritual creation and the completing them would be the physical creation. So if we put crappy plans or crappy goals in our lives, the physical creation is going to be crappy too. We need to always put good goals and plans and always have a plan so that the physical creation comes out good too. So remember set your goals high and always have plans for the future because thats Gods way.

I love you guys so much!

Hey MOM!

Thanks so much for the pics! They did make me a little bit trunky but they were great! D and Kels look so different!! THey have grown into beautiful women already. I cant believe it. You and Dad still look as young as ever dont worry. haha This week has been pretty great. We have been working super hard and we have had some amazing lessons. The spirit has been with us for sure. We did a special fast last Saturday and Sunday for Dad so he could stop smoking and I am really happy to hear that he is still smoke free. I continue to pray constantly for him and for all of you really. We have 2 baptisms this week. They are 2 girls of members that were inactive and now they are active and the coolest part is that they asked me to baptize them! I am so stoked! I love kids so much! They are just so smart and have so much faith. You can just feel that they are definitely a little bit closer to heaven. They have a special connection with our Father in Heaven. Tonight we will be going caroling to a few members houses and then going to eat dinner with a member family. Then we are going to go back home and chill and wait until the fireworks at midnight. Ya its wierd but that how they celebrate it here. I kinda like it. It´s fun. You dont know how happy I am to hear that Zak is going back to church! That is AWESOME!! I just hope he keeps it up until I get home. I am glad to know that he realizes that he always has another family that would recieve him at any time.

hey I has some serious personal revelation this week and wanted to share it with everyone. In God´s communication with Moses he calls him his son twice. Then after God leaves Satan comes to tempt him and says, "moses, son of MAN, worship me". Many times in our lives...ok always, Satan wants us to forget that we are Gods children. He wants to forget the royal lineage from which we come. Moses being the stud that he is answers brilliantly with "Who art thou? I am a son of God and where is your glory so I worship you?" Moses remembered the conversation that he recently had with God. He commands Satan to leave and he leaves. After that God comes back and he tells him that he was chosen of God. The word chosen is an interesting word. In D&C 121:34 it says that many are called but few are chosen. After in verse 36 it says that the priesthood cannot be governed or used without righteousness. So we learn here what separates the chosen from the called: righteousness. Also in 1nefi 1:20 it says that God chooses those that have faith. Ok so we go back to Moses and he showed his righteousness and his faith by resisting the temptationes of Satan. We all are called. God wants all of us to live with him but it depends on our faith and righteousness if we will be just called or chosen of God. I know that everyone in our family are chosen of God. keep it up!

Thanks again for the money and the pics send more pics!!

Hey Mom!

Ya it was cool to get 2 emails from ya haha actually 3. It was a pretty awesome week this week! The baptism went great and I got to baptize her. It was amazing to see her face after and how happy she was. She stayed in the water for like 30 seconds because she didnt want to leave. She was so ready for baptism. It was amazing. Today for Pday we went to the zoo here in seanz peña. I guess its like the 2nd biggest in Argentina, its no hogle or san diego zoo but it as pretty cool. Ya it is a lot different having a gringo comp. I actually miss my latin comps but its great with Elder Hamilton. Ya he is a super nerd but its cool, I am somewhat of a nerd at heart...shhh dont tell anybody. We are working super hard and have another baptism this Satuday and hoping to set some more dates for next year haha that sounds wierd. We did divisions with some other elders and we found a really awesome family that seems really promising. The Liva (leeva) family. They are a young couple with a little yer and half old boy named juan. Christmas is approaching and a lot more people let us in to talk to them because of the wonderful christmas spirit in the air, but also everyone gets super drunk around this date so we have to deal with more drunks on the streets but they are funny so its all good. It been a long time sence I´ve been so excited about the work. I am always excited but it just seems like I have jumped into overdrive. Its been super hot so I bought a sombrero so I dont get completely burned but my big nose sometimes still sticks out so its a little bit burned bit thats it.
> I cant believe it! John Mullins is going on a mission and Bryan Emery wow what a stud. Please send him my congrats. He is such an example to everyone. What about Bryan Adam? Is he going anytime soon?

Dad quit smoking!!!!??? YAAA! Thats great! Tell him I will be praying for him and that I am super proud of him. D and her patricarchal blessing! thats sweet! Tell her to pay close attention because its like her own section of D&C. Sorry about the money thing I will be more careful. I am doing well, aunt Donna wrote me nd told me that she sent $100 on behalf of the Grandpa Epperson tradition. So be expecting that if you havent got it. If you could give me the email of Jessica Iwould like to write her for her gift and I´ll bring her home something in August haha. So I think I will be calling christmas day around noon my time which I think is 8 your time. Let me know how that will work and I will tell you christmas eve. Alright I love you all be good and work hard!

DECEMBER 10, 2008 - DONDE ESTAN

Well, I planned on emailing this morning before I went to work because he usually doesn't email me until 10 or 11, but apparently he was early today!  Yikes!  I feel really bad, but still emailed him anyway today just in case he gets a chance to come back to his email later... :-(

Mom!
Wow I had an amazing thanksgiving. dont get me wrong it was nothing compared to one at home at Gmas house but at least I got a tradicional dinner. I will send pics. Their farm is awesome! I would almost live there. haha its just so far away. I was talking with an elder and he said that if it was in Idaho that he would do it. I would think about it, have a farm with cows and taters and pigs and stuff. I´m glad you guys had a good thanksgiving. Dad is so wierd but o well we love him for it.

This week was a little bit slow and our investigator Mariela didnt go to church because she had to work. The lady who normaly works Sunday had surgery so her baptism will be pushed back another week. We are just delaying the inevitable haha. I explained your story about us three terrible kids and I think it helped her a lot. Transfers are today and my comp will be going to Misiones at noon today. Its the same province where I was before. I am really grateful for the time we had together. It was hard at first mostly because of me but at the end we became really good friends. He taught me a lot about myself and about what type of missionary I want to be and that I´m not as cool as I think sometimes haha. MYnew comp will be Elder Hamilton. I firstmet him in Formosa when he first started we were in the same zone. I am super stoked for this transfer. We are going to kick butt!

That´s so awesome about gas! I want it to be like that when I go home haha. Thanks for the cookies recipe. I will let you know how they turn out haha. Ya SCOTT!!! That is so awesome I cant believe it. Ya did you know that his dad served a mission in Montana? Poor Crystal but everything will turn out for the better as long as she turns it around. I kinda figured that Tony wouldnt be doingso hot. Thats good to hear about Doug. He´snot married yet? haha Ya so pretty much the whole city was like that. The 3 main streets were pure rivers. It was awesome haha we had fun wading around in the water having people look at us wierd.

Ya so things are really good. Ya so we should probably start making the arrangements for Christmas. I think I will be calling again because its a lot cheaper and easier. Let me know to who and what time and all that stuff. Hey I love you guys! Be good!  Elder Griffith

Brockalockabingbang!

I'm so excited that you got a real Thanksgiving dinner!  Tell me how it went!  Was the couple nice?  Did your investigator make it to church for #3?  You need to somehow tell her that it's all worth it to go to church even if the kids are rotten.  There were plenty of times that I didn't know why I even tried to go to church because I didn't feel like I was getting anything out of it and wanted to just go home.  But wow was it all worth it!

We had a good Thanksgiving.  The girls and I went up to Gramma's and Dad stayed home to work on the house.  We had a good time and had lots of yummy food!  Dad said he had ice cube soup.  ha ha.  He chose not to come, so I don't feel sorry for him!  :-)

OK!  Here's a chocolate chip cookie recipe:
Ingredients:
1 pkg chocolate chips
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup margarine or butter
2 eggs (whisked)
2 cups dry oats (optional)
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour

Blend sugar, brown sugar, margarine or butter.  Add the eggs and continue to blend.  Add vanilla and mix thoroughly.
In a separate bowl mix rest of dry ingredients: flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt & oats.
Slowly mix in the dry mixture into the wet mixture until mixed completely.  Then add chocolate chips to taste.
Bake in 325 degree oven for about 10 minutes.

I don't know how this will work down there below the equator...  but give it a try!  And let me know what happens!

Good eye about the hair color.  I actually stopped highlighting my hair, but now my gray hairs are poking through, so I need to do  something to get rid of the gray!  Ha ha!  And yes Kelsey colored her hair.  Delaney's hair is natural, lucky girl.  And yes, your sisters are hot!  Ha ha.  Don't beat up the missionaries for telling the truth!  Ha ha!!

Scott's farewell was Sunday!  We came home on Saturday so we could go to his farewell on Sunday.  His whole family was there, it was really neat that they were all there for him!  Even his dad and brother from LV!  If you didn't know, he is going to Portland, Oregon.  I was really happy for him and he looks good and he looks ready.  Yay, Scott!  Sad thing was that Crystal is 7 months pregnant though.  That made me sad when I saw her..  And his silly mom was complaining that she's only got one going on a mission.  I hope she looks at it from a different angle and says, Yay!  I got one on a mission!  I also saw Tony Lyle there, didn't talk to him though, but he's got a beard and is looking kinda crappy.  Ha ha.

That reminds me, I saw Doug's Mom the other week.  And his dad another day.  They're looking good, Sherry lost a lot of weight.  She says Doug is doing really well at the U of U.

I LOVED the pictures of you in the rain!  They were awesome!  Sherri printed out them to fit on an 8x11 sheet of paper and she said it looks like you're standing there waiting for a hug!  ha ha.  Those pix made me happy cuz you looked so happy.  That was a lot of water, though!  Wow!  Were you just standing in the biggest puddle you could find or was the whole city like that!?  Crazy!!

The Oasis in Mesquite is closing down because of the bad economy.  Sad times!  Oh and I don't know if you knew about how much gas was getting, but it went over $4.00 a gallon.  And now all of a sudden the gas prices just fell and they are down to 1.63 now!  Up north it's even less!  Wow, we're living in crazy times..

Well, I hope you had a great week and I hope that you are well.  I am so proud of you!  Keep up the good work!

Love you forever,
Mom
